Sounds impossible, right? But, not if you’re using beautiful, attention-grabbing pop-ups!
Pop-ups are an excellent tool to stop visitors in their tracks and convince them to leave their email address with you.
But what happens after that?
You nurture them into paying customers!
In this post, we’ll show you how to:
- Create eye-catching pop-ups in Sendlane
- Add custom fields to your pop-ups to collect more subscriber information
- Create custom double opt-in and unsubscribe pages for brand consistency
Let’s dive right in!
What are pop-ups?
A pop-up is an opt-in form on your website that enables your visitors to subscribe to your email list by leaving their contact details with you.
Here’s an example of what a pop-up form can look like.
Pop-ups are great for grabbing attention, offering value to visitors, and even driving website conversions through effective CTAs!
There are tons of ways to use pop-ups. You can use them to simply capture emails, direct web traffic to a certain area of your website, or promote discounts and limited-time offers!
How to create highly-converting pop-ups using Sendlane
Now that you’ve learned about pop-ups and what they can do for your business, let’s show you how to get started with creating one in Sendlane.
We’ll also show you how to add custom fields into your pop-ups to capture more information about your subscribers and nurture them into paying customers!
Step 1: Create a pop-up
To create a new pop-up form, log in to your Sendlane account and click on the Pop-Ups tab on the left-hand sidebar.
Then, click on New Pop-up on the top-right corner of your screen, and pick the type of form you want to create.
In Sendlane, you can create three different types of pop-ups depending on your needs.
This type of pop-up form can be placed anywhere on your website with a simple line of code.
You can use an inline form on the side of your blog page, for example, so it doesn’t interrupt or distract readers from the page content.
This type of form literally pops up on your website based on the settings you choose inside Sendlane.
You can choose where pop-ups should be displayed, such as on mobile or desktop, when the form should pop up, and the number of times a pop-up should appear for each visitor.
This type of pop-up is useful if your visitors don’t spend too much time on a page, and you need to grab their attention and contact details quickly.
The key is to show them why that’s a good idea in the first few seconds. Will they receive a discount? Will they receive interesting updates from you every week?
A banner form floats at the top or bottom of your page to collect contact details.
They’re less intrusive as compared to other types of pop-ups, and stay on the screen at all times while your visitors scroll through your website and browse different pages!
Here's how a banner positioned at the top could look like:
You can use a banner pop-up to entice visitors to drop their emails with you, such as by announcing a pre-order list, offering a discount on sign up, or displaying a simple CTA urging visitors to subscribe to your newsletter.
Step 2: Add custom fields
To improve the effectiveness of your pop-ups, you can add custom fields to grab even more personalized information from your contacts.
For example, you can ask subscribers their favorite color or birthday, and then use that information to tailor future emails.
Here’s a conversion idea: Send them a birthday discount to get them to purchase!
Adding a custom field to your pop-ups in Sendlane is super easy.
Once you've selected the type of pop-up you want to create, you’ll be taken to the pop-up editor where you can drag and drop existing custom fields from the right-hand sidebar.
If you need to create a new custom field, simply hit the Add Custom Field button to do so!
Step 3: Enable double opt-in
Sometimes, visitors will subscribe to your list just to download an eBook or grab a discount.
Does this mean they’ll be willing to receive all kinds of emails from you? Not always.
This is where adding a double opt-in can help you out.
By enabling double opt-in in Sendlane, you can make subscribers go through an extra step of confirmation before subscribing to prevent one-off sign-ups.
Simply toggle the double opt-in option before publishing your pop-up.
You’ll be required to add two redirect URLs: one for immediate redirect, and the other after they’ve confirmed their subscription.
You could add a Thank You page as an immediate redirect, and then take subscribers to your Features page once they confirm their subscription.
Enabling double opt-in means your list will have more people who are genuinely interested in receiving your emails!
Good news! You can now easily customize the confirmation page your subscribers will see using Sendlane’s new editor for unsubscribe and double opt-in confirmation pages.
To access the editor, simply go to your Account Settings and click on Customize pages right at the bottom.
Once you’re inside the editor, you can customize the color and text of these pages. This new feature is great to help you establish brand consistency so subscribers can easily recognize who they’re engaging with.
