Tip of The Week: How to Retarget WooCommerce Abandoned Cart Customers & Recover Lost Sales

Did you know that nearly 70% of online shoppers abandon their carts during checkout?

If you’re not trying to get these customers back, you’re missing out on a lot of potential revenue!

This is exactly where retargeting can help you out.

Retargeting lets you reach out to people who have already shown some level of interest in your products or services, and get them to complete their purchase.

If you’re using WooCommerce, you can easily integrate your online store with Sendlane and send targeted emails to your customers.

Why Retarget Customers Who Abandon Their Carts

Consider an example of a shopper who browsed through your shoe store and added a few products to their cart, but left without completing the purchase.

Sending them a follow-up email encouraging them to come back and finish their purchase could increase your chances of making a sale!

But don’t just take our word for it.

According to Salesforce, around 17.6% of retailers saw an increase in conversions after they sent out retargeting emails to cart abandoners.

Abandoned carts show that potential customers came to your website and liked what they saw, but for one reason or the other, failed to go ahead with the purchase.

Their reason for doing so could be anything. Maybe your shipping rates are too high. Or your checkout process is too complex or lengthy.

Or maybe, they just don’t trust your company enough!

Finding out why a customer abandoned their cart is just as important as sending out a follow-up email so you know just how to make them come back.

For example, if a shopper abandoned their cart because of high shipping rates, you could send them a follow-up email reminding them of the products they left in their cart along with a coupon for free shipping!

How to retarget WooCommerce cart abandoners in Sendlane

In Sendlane, you can easily send retargeting emails by connecting your WooCommerce account and syncing contacts into your Sendlane email database.

When a contact abandons their cart, they’re automatically added to a list so you can send them targeted and personalized emails to bring them back.

Follow this simple two-step process to get started.

Step 1: Integrate WooCommerce and Sendlane

The first step is to integrate your WooCommerce store with your Sendlane account.

To do that, you need to download the WooCommerce plugin for Sendlane, and install it on your WordPress site.

Click here to download the plugin.

Once you’ve installed the plugin, navigate over to WooCommerce → Settings on your left and click on the Integration tab.

Here, you’ll need to enter your API key, Hash Key and Subdomain, which you can find in your Sendlane account under Account → API.

Click on “Confirm”.

Next, you need to choose your abandoned cart settings—this includes the Sendlane list that you’d like cart abandoners to be added to, along with the wait time.

You can also choose to remove contacts from the abandoned cart list after they've successfully completed a purchase.

Step 2: Create an Abandoned Cart Automation in Sendlane

Log in to your Sendlane account to land on the dashboard.

Navigate over the Automations tab on your left, and click on New Automation.

Next, click on Start From Scratch.

After naming your automation, click on the first box to add a trigger and choose Subscribes to a List.

From here, select your WooCommerce Abandoned Cart list.

Next, continue to create and add emails to your automation workflow as you see fit. When you’re done, don’t forget to Activate the automation.

That’s it!

Now, whenever a contact is added to the abandoned cart list, it will trigger the automation for them!
